The manufacturer provides a guarantee for the HVAC units themselves and will cover the cost to repair and replace any malfunctioning parts during the warranty. You should also receive written assurance from your HVAC company that the labor costs for future maintenance and repairs are covered.
Most manufacturers allow owners to look up existing heating or cooling warranty information on their manufacturing websites. This is usually done by entering the unit’s serial number, which will recall all warranty coverage associated with the system.
Extended HVAC warranties:
Manufacturers and installers often offer extended warranties that add from 5 to 12 years of parts and labor coverage. Make sure you are dealing with a company you trust to purchase this warranty – it is an extra that needs to be registered after the installation. Even if you have it in writing that you were supposed to have the warranty if it does not get purchased by the HVAC company within the required timeframe you will not get the coverage.
